One of the best ways to learn photography is to visit exhibitions and photo shops. We will visit a contemporary photography exhibition in this great space for photography and analyze the work of the artists and the meaning of their work.
We will meet at Le Bal gallery at 2pm - nearest metro: Place de Clichy (L2 and L13). After the exhibition we will have a feedback session at a nearby a café.
About the exhibition:
To mark the bicentenary of the birth of photography, LE BAL is presenting, for the first time, an exhibition devoted to a single collection: that of Michael and Jane Wilson / The Wilson Centre for Photography. Through this rare ensemble of 120 prints, the exhibition explores the sometimes elusive, sometimes luminous, always shifting relationship between the one who photographs and the one who is photographed.
From fleeting encounters to carefully staged collaborations, from images caught in the moment to collaboratively constructed scenes, the exhibition examines the relationship that comes into being, at the moment the photograph is made, between the photographer and their subject. What does the image reveal about the respective positions of these two bodies? About their complicity, their face-to-face encounter, the silent pact sealed by the gaze of one upon the appearance of the other?
The exhibition brings together iconic works and lesser-known images, from the 1920s to the present day, in a sensitive journey shaped by visual echoes, affinities and unexpected correspondences between images.

Pricing
Museum ticket price (€10) is not included in the course price. We will purchase tickets tickets on the day.
For insurance purposes, all attendees must be WICE members. We include a three-month WICE membership with the price for the general public.
About the instructor:
Juan Manuel Abellán is a professional fine art photographer and photography tutor based in Paris since 2007. He graduated in Advertising and Visual Arts and holds a Master in Art, philosophy and aesthetics, specialized in Photography and Contemporary Art. He has worked with the agency Magnum Photo and exhibited his work in several exhibitions, including at the Centre Georges Pompidou. Passionate about photography, Juan Manuel works as a freelance photographer with a specialization in portrait, reportage and fine art photography. He is also an experimented leader of photography adventure tours around the world.
