Starting at the Place de la Bastille, we will explore this working class neighborhood which was long a center for the furniture trade in France.  In the 18th century there were more than 900 furniture workshops here, and some of them have survived as workshops, showrooms, lofts or attractive cobbled passages.  We will see a building designed by Gustave Eiffel, an authentic art nouveau bistro, a 17th century church where the body of the Dauphin, Louis XVII is reputed to be buried, and a trendy street which is the center of latino music in Paris.

Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes.  Those who wish may join the instructor after the tour for lunch.

Instructor: Lee Hubert, B.A. Boston University, French and English, is a long-time resident of Paris.
